‘If You Have to Cry, Go Outside’

Kell on Earth: Cutrone's reality TV show that follows her hectic life as fashion publicist

Kelly Cutrone, known for her cut-throat, tell-it-how-it-is, ‘beating around the bush is for babies’ attitude and all-black wardobe (from head-to-toe, literally) is one of America’s most well-known fashion publicist.

“A lot of people think I’m a Wiccan. I’m not; it takes too long. I’d rather take something and make it happen than get 75 herbs and stir them in a pot by the full moon.”—  Cutrone via Elle.

You may recognize her from the MTV hit show The Hills as Lauren Conrad’s boss after leaving her intern with Teen Vogue and The City as Whitney Port’s (former Hills cast member) mentor, but she’s also the backbone behind Peoples Revolution which is based out of Los Angeles and New York. She was the director of PR for Spin and has produced shows for names such as: Vivienne Westwood, Nicky Hilton, Patricia Field (Oscar Nominee for Best Costume Designer on the set of The Devil Wears Prada), Paco Rebanne and highly acclaimed designer Jeremy Scott.

On top of her success with owning her own PR, marketing and branding firm, Cutrone also released a memoir entitled If You Have to Cry, Go Outside.

Although Cutrone may be perceived as insensitive and straight forward she is nothing short of intelligent and driven, to say the least. With a resume like Cutrone, she has all the right to make a girl cry with only the intentions of getting the job done right.

“We have a lot of young kids, girls, they’ve been set up to believe they’re God’s gift. And they can’t take a phone message! So when things are moving fast, me or Robin or Emily will swoop down on them and rip it. Not messing around. That causes them to get fired immediately or want to cry. On top of not being able to accomplish tasks, next thing you know you’re going to have to comfort them… ” – Cutrone via The Awl

A single mother to her six-year-old daughter, the founder of Peoples Revolution, the star of her own HBO reality TV show Kell on Earth and an inspirational female figure, Cutrone is a powerhouse and La Femme’s first IT Girl.

Leaving you with a piece of advice from Cutrone herself:

“Your dreams are ballbusters; they’re not the yellow brick road, and you have to really understand, most of our life we’re following this carrot to find out who we’re not. Allow yourself the chance to make a lot of mistakes. And after you do, pick yourself up and keep on trying, ‘cause if I quit every time I was bad at something, I probably wouldn’t have made it through high school, so keep going.” – Cutrone via VH1
